The Kiki
The Kiki was the first piece I named after a real woman, but it wasn’t until the design was finished that I realized who it would represent.
One of the aspects that I treasure most about my life is what I like to call my “easy” friends. These are very special people who simply make me feel good – there’s no pressure and we all fully support each other in doing just what makes us feel good in life.
It’s very easy to get caught up in the pressures of life and feeling like we have to do or not do something, just because of how we think other people will react. Because the reality is, even when you make a decision that’s solely based on what’s best for you and your life in that moment, others very often take offense. “Easy” friends don’t – it’s just about support, understanding and positive vibes.
When I began to build the CB Grey brand, these friends were front and center in my mind – and very involved in my everyday life. When I finished designing this scarf, we all looked at it and said, “OMG! This is SO Kiki!” So, I named the piece Kiki, after one of my dearest and closest friends Kristen.
Kristen is someone who can always make you feel good, no matter the circumstances. As sweet and caring as she is, she’s also got a firecracker personality. She’s not afraid to share her opinion, she’s strong-willed and she’ll always tell you what she thinks – whether you agree or not. She is full of joy and loves to laugh.
What the Kiki represents is a woman with an easy-going attitude that allows her to go with flow, without losing the ability to stand up for what she believes. When you wear this piece, my hope is that it encourages you to take a step back and just let life be easy sometimes. When you look at this piece wrapped around you, let it be the catalyst that allows you to give off the type of energy and positive vibes you want to see in the world, while also giving you the strength to let go of worrying about what others think and be proud of who you are and what you stand for.
A woman who is easy-going, yet firm in her values, is a force to be reckoned with -- and that is exactly the type of person that I believe is truly worth celebrating.
