The House of CB Grey
CB Grey creates original accessories inspired by real women, meaningful places, partnerships, causes, and moments worth remembering. Because something can be beautiful and still mean something. In fact, I think the best things usually do.

How it started
CB Grey started as a creative lifeline.
It was April 2020. The world had shut down, I had a six-month-old baby named Grey, and the video-production work I loved had disappeared almost overnight. So I did what I have always done when I do not know what comes next: I made something.
What started as digital painting on an iPad became a full-blown obsession with silk. I had no fashion background, no roadmap, and no idea how many tiny decisions could hide inside one square of fabric. But I knew how to notice things. I knew how to listen. And I knew how to take the details that mattered to someone and turn them into something visual.
I launched CB Grey on September 1, 2020 with a stubborn refusal to make anything generic. One design became a collection. One collection became a business. And somewhere along the way, all the odd little pieces of my life finally made sense together: photography, storytelling, psychology, color, people, and a slightly unreasonable belief that I could figure it out as I went.
Six years later, the obsession has not worn off. It is just much better organized.
What makes it CB Grey
Original artwork
Our scarves, minis, midis, headbands, and scrunchies are made from 100% silk. Our shawls are made from a lightweight silk-modal blend, which gives them their soft drape and larger, more versatile feel. Scarves and midis are finished with hand-rolled edges.
Real materials
100% silk across scarves, minis, midis, and headbands. Shawls in a lightweight silk-modal blend — which is exactly why they drape the way they do.
The story
The artwork may be what catches your eye, but the meaning is what makes the piece yours. The people, places, symbols, and tiny details behind each design are part of the experience — not a marketing line added afterward.

The Stories BEHIND THE SILK
Some designs begin with someone I love. Others begin with someone I have only just met.
The women behind CB Grey are not characters I invented. They are mothers, daughters, artists, founders, survivors, caretakers, troublemakers, and women who opened doors for me when they did not have to.
Then there are designs inspired by places, organizations, partnerships, and moments larger than any one person.
Different subjects. Same instinct: pay attention, find the details that matter, and make something beautiful enough to carry them.

WHAT WE MEAN BY MEANING
The Superhero story
Some designs sell. Some designs do more. Nobody commissioned The Superhero — Courtney drew it because the kids at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta deserved something brave to wear, and hundreds of scarves went to the pediatric cancer unit with no invoice attached. That's not a marketing story. It's just the kind of thing this house intends to keep doing.

Meet the founder & designer
courtney buchanan
Courtney Buchanan is the founder and designer behind CB Grey. Trained as a photographer but entirely self-taught in fashion, she launched the brand without a roadmap and built it one story at a time.
Today, she creates original designs inspired by real women, meaningful places, partnerships, causes, and moments worth remembering. She still draws from Atlanta, still obsesses over tiny hidden details, and still sends screenshots at strange hours because waiting until morning feels unreasonable.
Courtney lives in Atlanta with her husband, Mike and their son, Grey, the company’s namesake and the first person to see almost every idea before it becomes something real. He is also six, so his creative feedback tends to be extremely honest.

NO ONE BUILDS A HOUSE ALONE
CB Grey may have started with me drawing at a kitchen table, but it did not grow because of me alone.
It grew because women trusted me with their stories. Because customers told their friends. Because boutique owners took a chance on a brand they had never heard of. Because organizations trusted me with their history. And because friends packed boxes, worked events, answered texts, and showed up when there was more work than sleep.
So many chapters of CB Grey begin the same way: someone opened a door. I walked through it. Then I tried to hold it open for the next person.
